I have strived to be a Master at each of the stops along my career path, which included sales, marketing, corporate management, government service, and now entrepreneurship. At every stop I would concentrate on doing my best, but also watched every move my bosses made so I understood their role should I get a chance to move up. My dad gave me the best advice which was to “show up earlier than required and give more than was expected.”
I am proud of the industry of agriculture and the people who have chosen to spend their careers in this special industry. There is no other industry like agriculture, and the people involved have a unique bond. I have watched dozens of individuals leave the industry to try other pursuits and quickly return when opportunities opened up.
I am very concerned about government over regulation making it more difficult for the average person to farm profitably. The government officials claim their goal is to level the playing field for all farmers, but in reality they are driving out the small to medium sized producers who can't afford to comply with all of the regulations.
