What makes you a Master or a Maverick?

In production ag, it is a lifetime of learning. I'm a maverick because my brother Joe and I are the only producers in the US with the ability to grow for pharmaceutical drugs. I've also built four diesel power plants with five partners. These 30 million gallon plants have resulted in creating 130 jobs which brings in highly skilled and educated workers that now are changing their community for the better.

What would you say to policy makers?

There needs to be a more liberal trade policy because over a 3rd of our crops end up overseas; therefore this makes all farmers active in the export business. As an outdoor manufacturer, risk management tools like crop insurance should be made readily available. My insurance agent is an integral part of my business strategy.

What keeps you up at night?

Regulations now are tolerable and we are able to produce within them effectively…but I am concerned about where they will be in the future.
