I’m not sure that I will ever consider myself a master. Master implies that you know everything there is to know about the business. I have found that every year brings new situations and challenges to my business. I feel that I’m a Maverick. Using the knowledge that I have gained and working with other experts in the business to overcome the challenges a year may bring is what I feel makes me a maverick. I learned a long time ago it’s not just what you know but also who you know. Surrounding yourself with the proper people and making the right connections will get you farther than all the knowledge in the world.
What makes me proud about my business is that in only four years we have become the biggest forage harvesting operation in my area. With hard work and quality service we have continued to grow our operation every year. A never ending pursuit of growth and quality service drives us to provide the highest quality service to all of our customers.
My main concern about the ag industry today is the increasing level of government regulation and interference. I’m very afraid that there are too many people who know nothing about today’s ag industry writing the rules and regulation. However government is slow and reactive so by anticipating problems and policing ourselves I feel that we can always be a step ahead of them.
I see hybrids continuing to make less ground produce higher yields. I see GPS and precision farming doing the same thing. We are already reaping the benefits of these technologies and I only see them getting more efficient as we have to feed more and more people.
