U.S. Custom Harvesters, Inc.
A Maverick is defined as “being independent in thought and action or exhibiting such independence.” I am a Maverick.
I believe you can’t be a Maverick without first being a Master. It takes experience and passion to become a Master at anything you do. Once you’ve gained confidence in what you know and what you believe in, the Maverick in you will follow. Don’t be afraid to step up and fight for what you believe in!
It’s hard for me to choose one certain aspect of custom harvesting that makes me the most proud. When I see multiple combines in a field, hear the chatter on the two-way radios or see the grain trucks in line at the elevator; I feel proud. When I see our harvesting “family” from all over the country joined together at our convention or think about the positive accomplishments of our younger generation of harvesters; I feel proud. Just knowing the custom harvester is an integral link in getting the crop from the field to the table; I feel proud.
I would like to remind them of their roots and to practice a little more common sense when it comes to regulating agriculture. The constant attack by policy makers towards agriculture with ridiculous rules and regulations reinforces to me their lack of understanding and knowledge of where their food comes from and how it’s produced. Most Americans, including our policy makers, are too far removed from the farm. I have had the opportunity to personally sit down with several policy makers on Capitol Hill and have conversations regarding issues in the custom harvesting industry. Unfortunately, I’ve learned to begin the conversation with the question, “Do you know what a combine is?” Most do not.
Our policy makers need to know where their food comes from in order to protect our resources before it’s too late!
